Our review revealed that Gen Z students, despite being the most digitally connected generation, report the highest loneliness rates of any age group. Social media and online learning have blurred boundaries between connection and distraction—creating environments where students are “connected but alone.” This disconnect negatively impacts mental health, motivation, and academic performance, especially for first-year, commuter, and international students who lack everyday campus interaction.
